Manish Tewari invokes erotic novel ’50 Shades of Grey’ when asked if Congress supports the stripping of Article 370

Congress leader Manish Tewari invokes erotica '50 Shades of Grey' in Parliament while debating Article 370

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the resolution to dilute Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha and to bifurcate the state into two Union Territories.

Amidst all this, Congress leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury parroted Pakistan’s line and questioned how is Kashmir an internal matter when the UN is monitoring it since 1948. As Congress party was deviating from clarifying their stand on the issue of abrogation of Article 370, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked the Congress party to clarify their stand on the issue. “Congress should clarify if they are for or against scrapping,” said Amit Shah.

While responding to the same, Congress leader Manish Tewari then invoked the erotic porn novel ’50 Shades of Grey’ and said that “There’s an English book, it’s not black and white, it’s 50 Shades Of Grey.”

50 Shades of Grey is a novel by a British author E. L. James. The book is an erotic fan-fiction inspired from the popular book series ‘Twilight’ by Stephenie Meyer, which was also inspired from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. 50 Shades of Grey has explicit erotic scenes involving BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission and Sadism/Masochism) sexual practices. The book has been criticised because it often confuses the BDSM with physical and sexual abuses and shows characteristics of abusive relationship without really addressing the problem.
