According to a CBI official, the central agency had yesterday summoned Trinamool Congress MP Aparupa Poddar and Trinamool-turned-BJP leader Sovan Chatterjee in connection with the Narada sting footage case. The former Kolkata Mayor, Chatterjee defected to the BJP earlier this month, has been summoned to be present before CBI on August 31. On the other hand, the Trinamool MP from Arambag, Poddar, has been asked to appear before the agency on September 2. Both Chatterjee and Poddar have been a part of the Narada sting tapes.

Today, the CBI officials also grilled BJP leader Mukul Roy, who was earlier a TMC leader and considered to be the right hand of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Roy was interrogated in connection with the Narada sting tapes that surfaced just before the 2016 assembly elections in West Bengal and revealed people appearing as senior TMC leaders receiving money allegedly for promising favours. Mukul Roy was suspended from TMC for 6 years after his name surfaced in Saradha chit fund scam. He joined the BJP in November 2017.

The agency had already registered FIR against 12 TMC leaders, including MPs and ministers in West Bengal Government, and an IPS officer for corruption in the case.
