United Nations Population Fund Chief Farah Usmani on Saturday shared an image of a woman playing Holi with her friends and family, without her permission, and dubbed it as ‘harassment’. In the image, a man can be seen holding the lady’s hand from behind while other man puts colour on her. Taking the image out of context, Usmani claimed that this was harassment.

Vullary Awasthi, took to Facebook to let Usmani know that the men in above image are her brothers and the image was downloaded and shared without context. “This is how you spread hate. This is how you influence people with your words without having any context and create atmosphere of hate,” she said. She had tagged Usmani in her post as well.

Taking to Twitter, Awasthi said that she is shocked because her image was uploaded with privacy settings on which would mean someone had downloaded it and spread it around. Usmani, in her defence said that the point she was trying to make was generic. “Many women and girls have difficulty in saying no to many advances that they do not like,” Usmani said that she had no intention to offend anyone and hence had removed the post.

Usmani, however, on her own Facebook wall, where she had uploaded the misleading image, has not put up a clarification as to show that she misinterpreted a friendly Holi picture as harassment. She has quietly deleted the Facebook post.
