A 20-year-old girl, who came to meet her family members for the first time after eloping with her lover, was shot dead by her brother for marrying against the wishes of her family. According to the reports, the family was quietly preparing for the girl’s funeral when the police caught wind of the incident.

The case pertains to the Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar district where Shabina, who married Shahvaz against the wishes of her family three months ago and was living with him in Sujru village had come to visit her family first time since her marriage. The family had severed their ties with Shabina after she went ahead to marry a person despite their stern opposition.

After 3 months Shabina returned to her family in an attempt to placate them. However, still smarting from his sister’s audacity, Shabina’s brother Sannawar got indulged in an ugly spat with her. The altercation climaxed with Sannawar killing his sister Shabina by shooting her dead.

Following the incident, the police, as a precautionary measure, tightened the security of the village. A case has been filed against suspect Sanawwar, who is currently on the lam while the girl’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
