A vegetarian passenger was served chicken pieces in her veg meal on an Air India flight. Enraged, she complained about the same to the cabin crew but no action was taken on the matter. Finally the passenger shared the incident on social media.

Veera Jain shared a photo on X, formerly Twitter, of Air India’s vegetarian biryani which allegedly had chicken pieces. She wrote, “On my @airindia flight AI582, I was served a veg meal with chicken pieces in it! I boarded the flight from Calicut airport. This was a flight that was supposed to take off at 18:40PM but left the airport at 19:40PM.”

Veera also submitted her PNR number – 6NZK9R and seat number 10E, 10F. She tagged the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Union Civil Aviation and Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Press Information Bureau (PIB).

She further wrote, “First delay, then non-vegetarian in my vegetarian food. This is extremely disappointing and has hurt my sentiments. I demand Air India to take strict action regarding its catering services and delay.”

She also advised other passengers to double-check what they are eating. “I would suggest everyone to please double-check what you are eating on the flight,” she said. After two very delayed flights (Mumbai-Kozhikode on 4th January and return on January 8) and being served non-veg, I have now lost faith in all airline food.”

Veera wrote that when she told the cabin supervisor about the chicken pieces found in her food, they apologised. The cabin crew told her that apart from her, other passengers had also received similar complaints. She said that even when complaints were received, such vegetarian food was still served by the crew member. No information about this was given to other passengers.

Air India responded to Veera Jain’s X post, and requested her to delete the tweet. Air India wrote, “Dear Ms. Jain, we request you to remove the information given in the open tweet, so that no one can misuse it and direct message your complaint with PNR.”

However, Veera later wrote, “They (AI) have apologized to me only through message. “I don’t understand how they don’t realise that this is an issue of hurting sentiments.”

Let us tell you that earlier in the year 2022 also, the case of feeding fish to a Jain couple in an Air India flight by labeling the food as vegetarian had come to light.

The couple had alleged that two Muslim Air India staff told them that what they were given was veg food and they should enjoy it without any worries.

However, later confirmation from another staff member revealed that they were served fish. The Jain person had posted the video of this incident on many social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter. A huge uproar followed on the same.
