Uttar Pradesh police dismisses 5 constables who thrashed an innocent shopkeeper

The constables caught in the video were suspended

Police in Uttar Pradesh have been making news for their aggressive action against criminals ever since Yogi Adityanath took over, but they were in the news for wrong reasons recently when it was reported that some constables had behaved in an unruly manner against innocent citizens.

Acting quickly, police has now taken action against some policemen who were caught thrashing a innocent shopkeeper on video. The video was shown on TV channels and drew the ire of common people. The official handle of the state police apologised and later suspended the unruly constables.

The incident was reported on March 4th and action taken by police was conveyed the next day on Twitter. The video of this incident was reported on ETV UP-Uttarakhand. The shopkeeper was allegedly beaten up for demanding money for the cigarettes constables had bought.

The erring constables were named as Ravi Kumar, Vishwendra Kumar, Vikrant Kumar, Vineet Kumar. The constable driver Batukeshwar was also appears in the list. They were working in the Paraur police station in Shahjahanpur district as per UP police tweet.

After suspension, it was announced that they have been dismissed from the service:
