A case has been filed against Kamal Nath, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, in a local court in Bihar for insulting Bihar.

After his appointment, Nath had stirred a controversy when he asserted that people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were robbing those from Madhya Pradesh of employment opportunities. He also stated that he will protect the rights of locals.
Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has also demanded an apology from Congress President Rahul Gandhi for the divisive comments made by Nath. He said that Nath’s comments reflected the divisive mindset of the Congress party and the people of India will never support such rhetoric.

The Congress has, in the past, often employed such divisive rhetoric to win elections. During the Bihar Assembly Elections, the Mahagathbandhan had adopted the ‘Bihari vs Bahari’ trope to attack the Modi-Shah duo.
In Karnataka, incumbent Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had fanned linguistic chauvinism and regionalist sentiments to retain power. Despite the rhetoric, Congress suffered electorally in the Assembly elections and had to enter a post-poll alliance with the JD(S) to form the government. The Congress party had also attempted to separate Lingayats from the Hindu fold.
