Samajwadi Party’s senior leader Amaz Khan is not too happy with Mamata’s United Opposition rally which took place on Saturday in Kolkata. According to reports, Azam Khan felt that while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav attended the rally, the rally failed to adequately represent the interests of the minority.
According to Khan, since there was only one Muslim leader from Kashmir and one from Assam, the representation of Muslims, the second largest religious population, was “merely namesake”. He even slammed the Opposition leaders for sticking to political rhetorics instead of talking about issues that may help the nation progress.
He further said that Muslims should also get the benefit of 10% reservation for economically weaker section.
On Saturday, Kolkata’s Brigade Parade ground had turned into a heady mix of contradictory political ideologies coming together to defeat Modi in the upcoming 2019 general elections. Akhilesh Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Arvind Kejriwal, Jignesh Mevani, Hardik Patel, Tejashwi Yadav, HD Kumaraswamy, Chandrababu Naidu, Farooq Abdullah, Arun Shourie, Shatrughan Sinha, DMK’s MK Stalin were all present at Mamata’s rally, while Congress President Sonia Gandhi and BSP’s Mayawati stayed away from the show of strength.
