Addressing a rally in Etah, Uttar Pradesh on April 20, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday attacked the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav for his anti-poor and luxurious lifestyle during his tenure as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi targetted the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav for excessive spending on his bungalow at the cost of development of the state. While addressing the rally, Modi exposed the hollow claims of Samajwadi Party leader of being a ‘socialist’ and slammed him for leading an extravagant life in opulent bungalows.

Modi went on to target the Samajwadi Party for misusing the legacy of late socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia to further their political ambition. He said, “They did not care to build houses for the poor. Instead, they were more concentrated on building their bungalows.”
“We used to write letters to the then Uttar Pradesh government asking the names of those people who were eligible to avail free housing. But, they (Samajwadi party leaders) were busy building their bungalow with imported tiles, furniture. I have heard there were some expensive taps inside the bungalow,” PM Modi took a dig at Akhilesh Yadav over his controversial and luxurious life in bungalows during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Referring to the vandalism of the government allocated bungalow, PM Modi cited the infamous removal of plumbings by Akhilesh’ associates.
PM Modi had mentioned about the ‘Tontis’ (taps) earlier too when he had mentioned in one of his speeches earlier that an SP leader had stated that PM Modi’s discussions begin and end with toilets. He had stated that the owners of imported tiles and imported taps won’t understand the importance of doing ‘Chowkidari’ of toilets.

Setting a new example of ‘socialism’, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and current president of Samajwadi Party, left his government accommodation in ruins after he was asked to vacate it on Supreme Court’s orders. He had even removed the tiles in the swimming pool, taps, and expensive plumbings. The villa he has moved into has been made by joining two villas, the market price of each is estimated to be around Rs. 3 crores.
Following Akhilesh Yadav’s vandalism and alleged destruction of public property, a probe was conducted by a ‘technical committee’, which had indicated that Yadav spent over Rs 4.67 crore on erecting ‘illegal structure’ in the official bungalow.
