People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti’s motorcade was attacked by stone pelters in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Mufti was returning from a shrine there after paying homage.

The former J&K Chief Minister had gone to visit a shrine at Khirram in Anantnag district to pay homage. When she was returning to Bijbehara form the shrine, her cavalcade came under heavy stone-pelting. Though Mufti escaped the attack unharmed, a spare vehicle in her cavalcade was damaged by the stone-pelting and the driver was also injured.

Mufti is contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Anantnag constituency. Recently a case was filed against Mufti along with National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah in a Bihar court following their provocative comments about revoking of Articles 35A and 370.

Mufti had threatened the BJP after the party committed to repealing Articles 35A and 370 in its 2019 manifesto, that if they repeal these provisions, the whole country would burn along with the State of J&K. Calling Article 370 a bridge between J&K and India, she had said that if the bridge is broken why would a Muslim-majority State want to stay with India.

Speaking on similar lines, Farooq Abdullah had said, “They will bring outsiders to settle in Kashmir, they want to do away with Article 370. I swear by Allah, even Allah wants us to see us liberated from them. I will see how India’s flag is hoisted here”.

Mufti is also a known Separatists’ sympathiser, she stood in defense of Jamat-e-Islami and Hurriyat leaders when security forces carried raids on the separatists and arrested many of them.
