The former finance minister Arun Jaitley, who had voluntarily opted out of the cabinet in the second term of the Modi government has vacated the government bungalow allotted to him and surrendered the official cars provided to him. He has also reduced the security and returned most of the government officials from his personal staff.

According to a report in Swarajya, Arun Jaitley is moving to his own house in South Delhi after his family asked him to move out of the government bungalow due to ill-health. Jaitley has reportedly asked his personal staff to pay the pending dues of electricity, water bill, phone bills and discontinue the 25 newspapers.

Being a lawyer himself, Jaitley is following the Supreme Court verdict that directed the legislators to vacate their government bungalows within a month after the dissolution of the previous Lok Sabha. Jaitley has planned to get a smaller government accommodation after his treatment is done and hopes of returning in November this year.

After the 17th Lok Sabha election victory, Jaitley had written a letter to the Prime Minister opting out of the newly formed NDA government, citing health issues. A diabetic, Jaitley’s health deteriorated after he had a kidney transplant in May last year.
