Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday stoked a controversy after he threatened of “bloodshed” if any attempts were made to change the Indian Constitution.
According to the reports, former CM Siddaramaiah speaking at a gathering at T Narsipura in Mysuru said, “If any attempt is made to change the constitution there will be bloodshed in the country. Beware”.
Unveiling the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, senior Congress leader said that Ambedkar not only stood for the Dalits but also for those people who were exploited, suffered due to casteism and were denied opportunities. Ambedkar made a sincere effort for securing justice to all such communities, the Congress leader said.
Siddaramaiah claimed some people oppose Ambedkar because he gave equal opportunities to every person in society.
“Some people don’t like the Indian Constitution because he (Dr Ambedkar) granted equal opportunities to all the downtrodden communities through his constitution. Some people oppose him because he gave opportunities to every person in society,” the former chief minister said.

In the run-up to the state assembly polls in 2018, Siddaramaiah had made similar comments saying if the BJP-led NDA government tried to change the constitution, “there will be bloodshed in the country.”
Perhaps, former CM Siddaramaiah has ignored the fact that the Constitution of India has been changed and amended many times in the past, while his own party has been responsible for various controversial constitutional amendment acts including the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1972 during the era of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi which is infamously referred to as a “Mini Constitution”.
