Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti has again displayed sympathy with terrorists. On December 30, she visited a terrorist’s family in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and admonished the government for alleged harassment of terrorists’ families.

Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter to express her angst for the ‘injustices’ meted out to the terrorists and their families. Indicating that the action against terrorists is the ‘governor’s fight’ and not national security issue, the recently ousted CM stated to media, “It is an unfortunate incident that a militant’s sister has been assaulted by police. If the Governor has a fight with militants, why should their sisters be dragged into it? I warn the Governor and the police: if they do it again, it’ll be bad for them,”
Launching an attack on Mehbooba’s duplicity, the BJP alleged that the PDP chief is playing worst kind of opportunistic politics to stay relevant in the Kashmir politics. The BJP asserted that when Mufti was in power, she was all praise for the security operations against the Terrorists in the valley. “As soon as she lost the power, she started pandering to the terrorists and their families”, Sunil Sethi, chief spokesperson of the J&K BJP said.
Recently Congress leader Sagheer Khan had claimed that if Congress comes to power in Jammu and Kashmir, their government will give Rs 1 crores and jobs to the kin of slain terrorists and will free all those jailed in terror charges. He had also claimed that their party will hang BJP leaders in the state.
A senior National Conference leader Bashir Ahmed Veeri had stated recently that if they come to power, they will put a stop to all anti-terror ops by the Indian security forces.
Sympathising with terrorists and whitewashing of crimes of pro-terrorist stone pelters in the state is a chosen political tactic of many leaders in the state.
The imposition of the President rule in the J&K has caused excessive handwringing among the regional parties of the state. Unnerved by the growing irrelevance, arch-rivals National Conference and PDP buried their differences and even came together to stake a claim via Twitter and Whatsapp to form the government in the state, an attempt that was thwarted by the governor.
Governor Satyapal Malik then proceeded to dissolve the state assembly on Eid, the day on which it was purported that NC and PDP may come together. The governor said that governments are not formed on social media. The rebuff by the governor wasn’t taken in the right spirit and what followed was spurious allegations and accusations against the governor by NC’s Omar Abdullah and PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti.
The state is currently under the President’s rule till next assembly elections are held.
