He wrote that the violence in West Bengal persists despite the commencement of the Lok Sabha elections and also added that the people would respond to the violence by uprooting the current government.

Reportedly, the victim, Santu Ghosh, was a 25-year-old BJP worker who had switched from the TMC a few days ago. He was shot outside his house in the Nadia district. He was rushed to the hospital but he had succumbed to his injuries.

Incidents of violence have been reported despite the announcement of the election results. Clashes between the TMC and the BJP were reported after the polls, in which a BJP worker was allegedly shot at. A night before the final phase of the polls BJP leader Arjun Singh was allegedly shot at by TMC goons. Bombs were hurled and two vehicles were set on fire.

Following the widespread violence observed during the elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission had to take an unprecedented step of cutting short election campaigning for the seventh phase of Lok Sabha election in the state.
