Big boost to India’s aerospace industry: Tata-Lockheed Martin break ground for C-130 MRO facility in Bengaluru

In a major boost to India’s aerospace industry, India’s Tata Advanced Systems and US defence giant Lockheed Martin broke ground for a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru. This MRO facility will be used to service C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft.

Taking to X on Monday (8th December) Lockheed Martin said, “A new chapter of milestones begins, forged #ForIndiaFromIndia, and the world. We break ground on a new #C130 MRO facility with our long-standing partner @TataAdvanced in Bengaluru, deepening our commitment to strengthen India’s aerospace & defence industrial base.”

The MRO facility in Bengaluru will focus on operations like heavy maintenance, component repair, overhauls, structural checks, avionics upgrades, and structural restoration for the C-130J fleet.

The Tata-Lockheed Martin MRO facility ground breaking comes at a time when the joint venture is pitching the C-130J Super Hercules for the upcoming procurement of over 80 heavy-lift transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
