A case of Love Jihad has come to light in Hyderabad, Telangana, where a Hindu woman has accused her Muslim husband and his family of rape, blackmail and forced conversion. Speaking to ANI, the victim said that she met her husband, Nawaz (alias Navadurga), in May 2021, when he approached her to rent a shop. Nawaz told her that he had converted to Hinduism and changed his name to Navdurga to win her trust.
“I first met Nawaz in May 2021. After meeting for one or two days, he told me that he had converted to Hinduism and his name had been changed to Navadurga. Everybody from their family who was present at that time, everyone agreed on it. On 17th May, I posted, and on 18th May, he actually came to our shop. And then and there, he gave the rent and deposit of one month. That is how I met him,” said the victim, who married Nawaz last year on 28th July. She added that after marriage, Nawaz and his family forcibly converted her to Islam.
According to the victim, Nawaz took her to a resort in May 2021 on the pretext of introducing her to his family. She said that Nawaz’s siblings had spoken to her over a video call earlier and confirmed that they would meet her soon at the resort. After reaching the resort, the victim waited for Nawaz’s family to reach but Nawaz told her that they were running late.
Nawaz raped the victim and clicked her pictures while she was unconscious
After some time, Nawaz brought food and drinks despite the victim telling him that she did not want to eat yet. He forced her to consume the food and the drinks, after which she fell unconscious. The victim woke up the next morning feeling severe pain in her body. Feeling suspicious, she went to the reception desk to ask how many rooms were booked by Nawaz to confirm if his family was actually coming. To her shock, she was told that only one room was booked in the name of Nawaz. “At that moment, I realised I had been lured into a trap. When I returned to the room, Nawaz was sitting on the sofa. He asked where I had been, and I lied, saying I had gone to pay the food bill,” the victim stated.
When she asked Nawaz about what had happened the previous night, he admitted that he had sexual intercourse with her while she was unconscious. “While you were unconscious, I got physical with you and did whatever I wanted,” Nawaz told the victim. He also showed her some obscene pictures that he had clicked while she was unconscious. He blackmailed her using the pictures and told her to marry him, assuring her that he would delete the pictures after marriage.
Victim forced to convert to Islam and eat beef
Nawaz and his family kept blackmailing the victim using her obscene photos and videos, and threatened to kill her mother and rape her younger sister. She named Shahrukh, Sohail, Ismail, Reshma, and Nawaz’s sister, Nasima, as the persons involved in the crime. The victim said that she was converted to Islam after marriage and her name was changed to ‘Nazeera’. She was forced to eat beef and was not allowed to perform puja. She said that she has been subjected to consistent physical and mental torture by Nawaz and his family. She revealed that she was hit and her clothes were torn in front of others.
Nawaz and his family defrauded the victim of ₹25–30 lakhs
The victim said that Nawaz and her family used emotional manipulation, threats, and intimidation to control her. They forced her to change her place of residence, pressured her to enter a land deal, and falsely claimed to start a business in her name. She said that she was duped of ₹16.7 lakhs by Nawaz and his family by July 2021. Nawaz and his family allegedly defrauded the victim of a total of ₹25–30 lakhs and significant amounts of gold. She was also forced to undergo an abortion in August 2021.
She accused the police of not taking action against Nawaz and his family. She approached the police in January to file a case of rape and fraud against Nawaz and his family, but the police allegedly filed a case of a missing person.
