Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suffered a widespread outage on Monday, 16 February, leaving thousands of users unable to access the app or load their feeds across multiple regions, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.
The worst-hit areas included the United States and several parts of India, where a large number of users reported problems logging in, posting, and refreshing their timelines. Complaints surged sharply on outage-monitoring platforms as the disruption unfolded.
This is not the first such incident in recent weeks. X has faced multiple outages over the past month, including a major disruption on 16 January and another on 13 January.
Downdetector data showed that thousands of users had flagged issues during both earlier crashes as well, with major cities in the US and India among the worst affected.
How many users reported the issue?
As of 9:00 am ET (1324 GMT), more than 40,000 users in the United States had reported problems with X, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages based on user-submitted status reports. In India, over 3,000 users flagged issues around the same time, indicating that a significant number of people were still unable to access the platform.
Most complaints were related to the website, while some users also reported problems with the mobile app. Many said they were unable to load their feeds or timelines, underscoring the scale of the disruption.
