Earlier, Bhagwant Mann was summoned by the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, over alleged offensive remarks about Sikh devotees. Mann appeared before the Takht and was also questioned about a viral video which showed a man resembling Mann sprinkling alcohol on the images of Sikh gurus.

While CM Bhagwant Mann denied the accusation brought against him and claimed that the viral video was AI-generated, forensic tests confirmed the veracity of the video. After it was confirmed that the video was genuine and not AI-generated, AAP claimed that the video may be real, but forensic tests did not establish that the man seen in the video was Bhagwant Mann.
After the meeting of five Singh Sahibs (high priests), Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced a verdict from the faseel (platform)” of the highest Sikh temporal seat. Gargaj declared that the Sikh community must shun ties with Bhagwant Mann.
In addition to excommunicating Mann, the Akal Takht raised sharp objections over the newly enacted Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. The Akal Takht has summoned all Sikh MLAs and cabinet members who signed the Bill of the anti-sacrilege law to present themselves at the Akal Takht on 29th June.
