In a significant boost to India’s semiconductor ambitions and the “Make in India” initiative, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Tata Electronics today announced a strategic collaboration to produce Qualcomm Automotive Modules at Tata Electronics’ upcoming high-volume semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
The partnership positions Tata Electronics as a key manufacturing partner within Qualcomm Technologies’ global network of module suppliers, aimed at meeting surging demand for modular automotive platforms. Production of the modules, which integrate Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips (SoCs) with essential components into ready-to-deploy solutions, is expected to begin once the Assam facility becomes operational later this year.
These modules are designed to power next-generation vehicle features including digital cockpits, infotainment systems, advanced connectivity, and intelligent vehicle architectures, helping automakers accelerate the shift toward software-defined vehicles while simplifying design and shortening development timelines.
“Our work with Tata Electronics marks an important milestone in our automotive growth strategy,” said Nakul Duggal, Executive Vice President and Group General Manager, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. He added, “as the industry accelerates its shift toward integrated, module-based architectures, expanding manufacturing capacity in key regions becomes essential. Tata Electronics brings world-class expertise, trusted production capabilities, and a shared commitment to strengthen India’s role in the global semiconductor and automotive ecosystems.”
Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India, added, “Modules are central to Qualcomm Technologies’ vision for the future of vehicle electronics. Manufacturing in India through Tata Electronics enhances our ability to support both Indian and global OEMs with greater flexibility and supply chain resilience.”
Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, expressed enthusiasm about the alliance, saying, “We are excited to partner with Qualcomm Technologies to manufacture their advanced automotive modules in India. This collaboration supports Tata Electronics’ objective to become a global hub for high-technology manufacturing as a trusted partner to our leading semiconductor and automotive customers worldwide.”
Tata Electronics’ greenfield OSAT facility in Jagiroad, Assam, India’s first indigenous semiconductor assembly and test plant, is coming up with an investment of around ₹27,000 crore (US$3 billion). It will employ advanced packaging technologies, including Wire Bond, Flip Chip, and Integrated Systems Packaging (ISP) to produce critical components for automotive, communications, IoT, and AI applications.
