On Monday (21st July), the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) rescued 56 women from a train at the New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal’s Siliguri.
The joint operation thwarted a massive human trafficking plan. RPF and GRP also arrested 4 traffickers so far. They are named Chandrima Kar, Birendra Pratap Singh and Manoj Kumar and Jitendra Kumar Paswan.
According to reports, the traffickers told the law enforcement authorities that the women were being taken to Bengaluru for jobs.
However, on inquiring about the matter, the RPF and GRP learnt that the women were completely unaware of the purpose of the travel.
The victims did not have valid tickets, and their coach and berth numbers were written on their hands with ink. They also lacked proper travel and employment documents.
It came to light that the women, aged between 18 and 31, were being taken to Bihar instead of Bengaluru.
The victims were residents of Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts and have now been united with their families.
