On 2nd February, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Rajasthan Police served a notice to a British couple, who had come to India on tourist visas, to leave the country. The notice was issued after they pasted posters supporting Palestine and opposing Israel at several places in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The posters contained messages like “Free Palestine, Boycott Israel.”
The incident came to light on 21st January, when local authorities informed the CID about the pro-Palestine posters pasted at various places. A team from the CID launched an investigation into the matter. The authorities found that the posters violated tourist visa regulations in addition to offending local sensitivities. The couple were identified through CCTV footage and local input. The Intelligence Department alerted the district police administration.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) Rajesh Meenam, the couple, identified as Lewis Gabriel D and Anushi Emma Christine, arrived as tourists in India. The couple had been staying in Pushkar. They were interrogated by a team led by ASP Meena. After interrogation, the authorities found that the couple had engaged in political activities, which violated tourist visa norms.
“Engaging in activities that disrespect other nations while on Indian soil is a clear violation of visa rules,” Meena said. The senior police officer added that under the Immigration and Foreigners Act of 2025, the CID issued the notice to the couple directing them to immediately depart from India.
