On Sunday (8th February) evening, an Islamic terrorist named Abdul Rehman, who plotted an attack on Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, was killed by a fellow inmate inside a jail in Haryana’s Faridabad.
According to reports, the killing of the terrorist was carried out by a man named Arun Choudhary using a sharp object.
Choudhary, who hails from Kashmir, struck Abdul Rehman on his head with the weapon, leaving the terrorist in a critical condition. He was thereafter rushed to a medical hospital where he was declared dead. The motive of the killing is not yet known.
Who was Abdul Rehman
For the unversed, Abdul Rehman was arrested in March last year during a joint operation of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Haryana Special Task Force (STF) in planning a terror attack on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Islamic terrorist was found in possession of 2 grenades, which were later defused by the bomb squad.
The bombs were reportedly procured from terrorists connected to Pakistan’s ISI. The investigators also recovered electronic material, including photos and videos of the Ram Mandir and instructions to attack the Hindu temple.
It had come to light that Abdul was residing in Faridabad with a fake identity and worked as an autorickshaw driver to avoid suspicion. The investigators found that he was tasked to carry out reccee of Ram Mandir and other prominent administrative buildings in Uttar Pradesh.
Following his arrest, a massive probe was launched to identify sleeper cells, facilitators and logistical supporters.
