US forces likely responsible for strike on Iranian school which killed 150 children, finds US investigators

In a major development, US military investigators believe that US forces are likely responsible for the deadly strike at an Iranian girls’ school, which killed 150 children.

According to a report by Reuters, the matter was confirmed to them by 2 US officials, although the investigation into the matter is yet to be completed.

On Wednesday (4th March), US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged that the US military was probing the incident. He stated, “We’re investigating that. We, of course, never target civilian targets. But we’re taking a ‌look and investigating that.”

Earlier, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “While the Department of War is currently investigating this matter, the Iranian regime targets civilians and children, not the United States of America.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has, however, claimed that the country would not deliberately target a school.

It must be mentioned that a girls’ school in Minab in Southern Iran was hit on Saturday (28th February), which resulted in the deaths of at least 150 students.

It is a war crime under international humanitarian law to deliberately attack a school , a hospital or a civilian structure.
