The incident took place late on the night of 24th March when the accused entered the temple and broke the idol by throwing stones. According to Indar police station in-charge Vivek Yadav, a case was registered on March 25 under Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint by Shevendra Lodhi (34) and other villagers. Reason behind the act

During the interrogation, accused Danveer Jatav confessed that he was deeply disturbed due to his brother’s murder last year. He told police that he was carrying anger over the incident, which led him to take this step. According to the police, the accused was also drunk when the crime was committed.

Jatav is reportedly a Dalit activist, with social media users claiming that he is a member of Bhim Army.

Apology procession in the village

After the arrest of the accused, the police took him back to the village for spot verification. During this process, an apology procession was carried out where he walked through the village holding his ears and asking for forgiveness from residents. At the temple, he bowed before the deity, did sit-ups, and apologised again for his actions.

During this period, a large number of villagers gathered at the location as tension had already spread in the area after a video of the incident surfaced and went viral.
