The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajkot Police has detained two Bangladeshi women who were living in the city without valid documents. Officials said this action is part of an ongoing drive ordered by the state Home Department to identify and take action against foreign nationals staying illegally in the state.
According to police, this campaign has been going on for nearly 10 months now. Earlier, in mid-February, four other Bangladeshi women were also arrested as part of the same operation.
Sources said the latest case came to light after a resident reported two suspicious women living near Raiya Chowkdi through a dedicated police helpline. After receiving the information, the SOG team kept a close watch on them and carried out a detailed investigation over the past week.
When the police questioned the two women, they were asked to show documents to prove their Indian citizenship. However, they could not provide any valid proof. After this, they were taken into custody and questioned jointly by local police and central agencies.
During interrogation, the women reportedly admitted that they had entered India illegally around eight years ago. They initially stayed in Surat for six to seven years before moving to Rajkot, where they had been living in the Raiya Chowkdi area for the last one and a half years.
