Kolkata Police suspends constable who posted video saying TMC is enabling Islamisation of the department in Bengal, asked Hindus to defeat Mamata’s party

The Kolkata Police on April 27 suspended constable Ramkrishna Kayal of the 1st Battalion, Kolkata Armed Police, after he posted a video on social media criticising the TMC government led by Mamata Banerjee. The Kolkata Police also stated that police personnel are ordered to avoid posting, sharing, or endorsing any content that breaches service rules or the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Kayal had posted a controversial 23-minute video on Facebook on April 26 which went viral quickly.

In the video, Kayal had appeared in his uniform, identified himself, and had gone ahead to accuse the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of enabling the “Islamisation” of Bengal. He stated that in the last 15 years, the TMC has Islamised the police department and is encouraging the conversion of Hindus to the Islamic faith at the administration level. He urged the people voting in the second phase of elections to exercise their franchise in such a way that would make the TMC government fall. He added that Hindus in Bengal should remember that TMC winning is a victory of ‘Jihadi power’ that would destroy Hindu shrines and temples, and desecrate Hindu idols.

Kolkata Police has cited police service rules and the Model Code of Conduct, which mandate strict political neutrality, especially during elections. Voting for the second phase of the Bengal assembly elections is scheduled for April 29 (Wednesday).
