Horror at Lucknow railway station: Dismembered body of woman found in Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express, limbs packed separately in bag

On Sunday morning, 17th May, a disturbing incident came to light at Gomti Nagar railway station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, after the Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express completed its journey. Railway staff found the dismembered body of an unidentified woman packed inside a box and a heavy-duty cargo bag kept inside the sleeper coach of the train.

Suspicious luggage found during coach cleaning

The train, which had travelled around 503 km from Chhapra, reached Gomti Nagar station at around 6:35 am. Later, while cleaning work was going on inside the S1 sleeper coach, sanitation workers noticed an unattended box and a heavy-duty bag lying near the washroom area and under a berth.

Finding the luggage suspicious, the staff informed railway officials, who then alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Teams reached the coach and brought the box and bag to the platform for checking.

Torso found in locked box, limbs packed separately

As the box was locked, officials broke it open with a hammer. Inside, they found the torso of a woman wearing a salwar-kurti. During further checking, police found the woman’s hands and legs wrapped in polythene sheets and packed separately inside the cargo bag.

Police said the victim’s head was missing. The woman is believed to be around 25 to 30 years old.

The recovery caused panic at the station, while forensic teams were called to examine the coach and collect evidence from the luggage.

Woman’s identity is still unknown

According to the GRP, information was received on 17th May about an unattended box and bag found inside coach number 217570 NER S1 of train number 15114 Gomtinagar Express. After opening the luggage, the police recovered the woman’s body parts.

GRP officials said efforts were immediately started to identify the victim through different channels, but her identity has not been established so far. Following the procedure, a panchayatnama was prepared, and the body was sent for post-mortem.

CCTV scan and passenger verification are underway

GRP Superintendent of Police Rohit Mishra said the woman was likely killed around 10 to 12 hours before the body was recovered.

Police suspect the body was brought onto the train after the murder to hide the crime and confuse investigators. Three teams have been formed for the investigation.

One team is checking CCTV footage from railway stations along the train route to identify who carried the box and bag into the coach. Another team is contacting passengers who travelled in the S1 coach to gather clues.

Officials are also tracking passenger movement and matching missing persons reports from nearby districts and other states as the investigation continues.
