On Wednesday, 27th May, Rahul Gandhi demanded an independent judicial inquiry and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) over alleged irregularities in the CBSE Class 12 examination results. The Congress leader accused the board of “massive tampering” in the evaluation process and raised serious questions over the company’s handling of the digital checking of answer sheets.
However, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) strongly rejected the allegations and said the claims were “misleading” and “not based on facts.”
Rahul Gandhi questions contract given for digital evaluation
The controversy revolves around the contract awarded to Hyderabad-based company Coempt Edu Teck, which handled the on-screen marking process introduced for CBSE Class 12 board exams this year.
Under the new system, answer sheets were scanned digitally and evaluated online by teachers through a special portal.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the same company had earlier been linked to controversies in Telangana under a different name.
“The company Coempt (Edu Teck), which was handed this responsibility, had already pulled off the same deed in Telangana in 2019 under the name Globarena. Name changed, but the intent is the same, the nature the same,” Gandhi wrote.

He further alleged that, despite knowing the company’s background, the contract was still awarded. “This isn’t a mistake — it’s a deliberate conspiracy,” he claimed.
The Leader of the Opposition also asked several questions to the government and the CBSE. He questioned why the contract was given to the company, whether proper rules were followed, why background checks were allegedly not done, and whether there was any connection between the company’s management and the Narendra Modi government.
CBSE rejects allegations, says rules were followed
Responding to the allegations, CBSE issued a statement saying all procedures were properly followed while selecting the agency.
“CBSE rejects the allegations regarding the award of contract to Coempt Edu Teck, Hyderabad. It is erroneous, misleading and not based on facts,” the board said.

The board added that the contract was awarded only after following government procurement rules.
“CBSE has followed the General Financial Rules protocols scrupulously in the awarding of the contract to the agency. CBSE floated the Request for Proposal (RFP) for digital evaluation of answer books for Board Exams 2026 on the Central Public Procurement portal on 28.08.2025 and awarded the contract to the qualified bidder,” the statement said.
Despite the clarification, Rahul Gandhi continued to press for answers. “A denial is not an answer. Why are the Education Minister and CBSE unable to answer the four simple questions I have asked? The future of 18.5 lakh students has been put in jeopardy. They deserve the truth,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, according to the media reports, issues such as blurred answer sheet pages and re-scanning of copies are likely to be covered under penalty clauses in the company’s agreement with CBSE.
The board is also expected to open the portal for verification and re-evaluation this week after the scanned copies of the answer sheets are uploaded completely.
