Jahangir Khan, the notorious All India Trinamool Congress (AITC or TMC) strongman from Falta in West Bengal, has been publicly paraded by the authorities for the second occasion. He was observed wearing shorts and a t-shirt, apologising with his hands folded, head lowered and pulling on his ears. A rope was fastened through his waist and held by an official.
Khan was escorted by armed personnel as they made their way through the streets. He has been booked regarding accusations of extortion, land grabbings, violence and other offences. He attempted to leave the country but was caught close to Panitanki on the India-Nepal border by the Special Task Force (STF). On 11th June (Thursday), similar scenes unfolded as Khan was escorted through various areas in Falta in South 24 Parganas. He was taken into custody in relation to a case involving violence that occurred after the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021. He was brought to Sahararhat and surrounding regions by police officers and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) teams to reproduce case-related events.
Khan was transported through the area under strict security while wearing Bermuda shorts and a white T-shirt. A security cordon and several police vehicles encircled the area, but locals flocked to witness the proceedings.

“The accused was taken to locations connected with the case to help investigators verify facts and gather evidence. He was taken to specific locations relevant to the investigation. Such visits are conducted to reconstruct events, verify statements and identify locations mentioned during questioning. This forms part of the investigation process,” an officer conveyed.
“The investigation is at a crucial stage. We are examining all available evidence and following due legal procedure. Further steps will be taken based on the findings,” the authorities mentioned. Enraged people in Falta vandalised his office shortly after he was nabbed, breaking furniture and windows. Additionally, a significant amount of relief material was found on the property.
Khan who declared himself as “Pushpa” during the election campaign in the state finished fourth on the 21st of May Falta assembly repoll. He pulled out of the fight just days before the contest. He is a close aide of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee.
