Bangladeshi woman carrying fake Aadhaar card with Hindu name caught at Guwahati Airport after arriving from Bengaluru, says she crossed the border illegally to meet boyfriend

A Bangladeshi woman has been detained by security personnel at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati after finding that she was using a fake Hindu identity with the help of a fake Aadhaar card. The 24-year-old Bangladeshi woman was detained on Tuesday night for using forged identity documents to live and travel illegally in India.

The woman, identified as Pooja Das in the fake Aadhaar, arrived in Guwahati from Bengaluru on an Air India flight around 7:45 pm, reportedly to meet her boyfriend, who is believed to be residing in the city.

Her suspicious movements at the airport drew the attention of Assam Police intelligence officials. Upon checking her documents, it was found that her Aadhaar card was fake, leading to detailed questioning. During interrogation, she admitted to being a citizen of Bangladesh from Narayanganj in Dhaka. She was subsequently handed over to the Border Branch of Azara Police Station for further investigation and later sent to a detention centre in Goalpara.

Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the woman allegedly crossed the India-Bangladesh border illegally through Tripura with the assistance of a middleman based in Agartala. After entering the country, she travelled by train from Agartala via Guwahati to Bengaluru, where she was employed with a private company.

Authorities found that she had obtained the fake Aadhaar card in the name of Pooja Das, bearing an address from South Dinajpur district in West Bengal. The document mentioned her as the daughter of Suman Das from Dayabari village under Ramnagar-II in Nadia district of West Bengal. This forged document enabled her to stay, travel, and work across different parts of India without detection.

The woman’s real name and identity has not been revealed by the police yet.

Investigators are now focusing on several key questions, including how she managed to cross the border, who provided her with the fake Aadhaar card, and whether a larger network was involved in facilitating her illegal entry and stay. The identity of her boyfriend and the nature of their relationship are also under scrutiny. The incident comes at a time when discussions between the Border Security Force and Border Guard Bangladesh regarding the repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detected in Assam are ongoing.
