Adani Defence to build South Asia’s largest private missile ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh with ₹2,500 crore investment, foundation stone laid in Shivpuri

Adani Defence & Aerospace on Sunday laid the foundation stone for South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. The company plans to invest ₹2,500 crore in this state-of-the-art integrated facility, which will encompass the entire missile manufacturing value chain from raw materials to mission-ready systems.

The foundation stone was laid by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with other senior officials. Karan Adani and Jeet Adani from the Adani Group participated in the ceremony.

The integrated missile ecosystem will manufacture medium to long range missile systems, apart from producing composite propellants, TNT and explosive-grade materials. This project aligns with the Government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India by strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

Speaking at the event, Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted the significance of the initiative. He stated that the Shivpuri facility would manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems and include composite propellant manufacturing as well as production of TNT and explosive-grade materials. “This facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof — a historic first outside the public sector,” he said, adding that it would help replace foreign dependency with domestic power.

The project is expected to be completed over the next three years and will create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs while engaging more than 50 MSMEs in a specialised defence supply chain. Jeet Adani emphasised that the new complex would complement the group’s existing defence manufacturing operations in Gwalior, which already produces light machine guns, assault rifles, and carbines. Notably, the Light Machine Gun programme has delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces, 11 months ahead of schedule.

Jeet Adani further noted that Gwalior and Shivpuri would serve as twin engines of defence innovation in Madhya Pradesh. “They will ensure that the advanced systems protecting our skies are proudly built by Indian hands, on Indian soil,” he remarked. The company is collaborating closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Armed Forces to promote indigenisation and reduce India’s reliance on imported defence equipment.

This development adds to the Adani Group’s substantial commitments in Madhya Pradesh. At the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal last year, Chairman Gautam Adani had announced investments worth over Rs 1.10 lakh crore across various sectors, aiming to generate significant employment. The group has already invested more than Rs 4,000 crore in cement plants and is actively involved in power, renewable energy, and other infrastructure projects in the state.
