On 6th July, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sankireddy Bheem Reddy in a disproportionate assets case. The arrest was made after searches at several locations linked to him and his associates. A designated ACB court sent him to 14-day police custody on Tuesday.
Bheem Reddy is posted at Police Computer Services in Hyderabad. He was taken into custody around 7:40 pm from his residence at Vessella Meadows in Ibrahimbagh. According to the ACB, he acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income through corrupt and dubious means during his service.
Searches at 16 locations
On 2nd July, the ACB conducted raids at his residence and 15 other premises linked to his relatives, friends, alleged benamidars and associates across Telangana and Karnataka.
Reports suggest that during the searches, officials found several immovable properties, including a villa at Vessella Meadows, a G+2 house with penthouse at Telecom Nagar, flats in Telecom Nagar, Gachibowli and Tellapur, a commercial property near Manikonda, open plots at Pragathi Resorts, Nagole, Patancheru and Vikarabad, and agricultural land in Sangareddy, Karnataka, Devanahalli, Mominpet and Muchintala.
Cash, gold and diary recovered
The ACB also recovered around Rs 3.60 lakh in cash from the officer’s house. Another Rs 40 lakh was recovered from the house of his alleged benami. Officials also found around 2 kg of gold ornaments, 20 kg of silver articles and bank balances of around Rs 19.91 lakh.
According to media reports, the investigation into his disproportionate assets gained pace after the recovery of a handwritten diary from Bheem Reddy. The diary was written before he left for the Char Dham pilgrimage with his wife in May and contained a list of properties, investments, liabilities and names of alleged benamidars.
The scanned copies of the diary were shared with his two sons on WhatsApp before he left for the trip, the investigators said.
