Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DNA of 80 victims identified, 33 bodies handed over to families

On June 12, Air India flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take off. 241 out of 242 people on board died along with 40 people on ground. Since then, efforts are on to identify all the victims through DNA testing.

The hospital authorities have now confirmed that the identification of 80 victims through DNA matching has been done. These include former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Additional Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, Dr. Rajnish Patel, informed the media that as of last night, DNA matching has been completed for 80 victims, and 33 bodies had been handed over to their families.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had crashed into a medical college complex on Thursday shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
