Bengaluru: Police arrest Syed Arbaz after video goes viral, accused had brandished knife and threatened a family during traffic stop

The Kadugodi police have arrested a 25-year-old man on Sunday (18th January) who threatened a car-borne family with a knife during a road rage incident in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The accused, identified as Syed Arbaaz Khan, a resident of the area, already four criminal cases against him, including cases related to bike theft.

The arrest comes one day after a video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the accused is seen pulling out a dagger from his pants and threatening the occupants of a car following a traffic-related dispute. The incident took place on Friday evening (16th January), near the Nexus Shantiniketan Mall, which falls under the limits of the Kadugodi police station.

According to police officials, the incident of road rage happened when the accused overtook the victim’s car, riding a scooter at close range. Both vehicles later stopped near a traffic junction, where the scooter rider approached the car. He then abused the driver, pulled out a knife, and threatened him with serious consequences before fleeing the spot.

The entire event was also recorded by a dash cam fixed inside the car. The victim posted the video on X, tagging Bengaluru City Police to get the ball rolling. Cops jumped on it Saturday (17th January), filing a suo motu case against the rider for packing an illegal weapon. 

Notice was taken of this viral video, and a suo motu case was registered by Kadugodi police on Saturday (17th January). They’ve slapped charges under the Arms Act, too, plus stuff like criminal intimidation, threats, and messing with public safety.
