Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the ceremony and congratulated Nabin immediately after the announcement. Former BJP president J.P. Nadda, along with Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari, were among the senior leaders greeting him and welcoming him into his new role.
Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman, who was the returning officer for the polls, announced the results of the BJP’s organisational elections. He handed over the certificate of election to the 45-year-old leader, formally confirming his appointment as national president.
Laxman said that 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in support of Nabin, and all were found valid, making him the only candidate in the race.
Nabin, a five-time MLA in the Bihari legislative assembly, was chosen for the position on Monday, 19th January. His appointment was long in sight. The position of working president of the national BJP was assigned to Nabin by his party on 14th December of last year after almost 18 months of consultations by the organisation.
This clearly signifies that Nabin was going to be the final selection for the position sooner or later.
This appointment makes Nabin the 12th president of the BJP, a political party founded in 1980. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, J. P. Nadda said it was a historic moment.
He said the BJP was proud that a young, energetic and capable leader was taking charge of what he called the world’s largest political party. He extended congratulations on behalf of party workers across the country.
As he begins his term, Nabin is expected to guide the party through upcoming elections and internal challenges, with a strong focus on youth engagement and organisational strength.
