Delhi blast: Umar Nabi was preparing his suicide squad, spent three hours in parking to assemble explosives, probe reveals

In the Delhi blast case, fresh revelations about Jihadi terrorist Dr Umar Nabi have emerged. After a video of Umar Nabi justifying suicide bombing or Fidayeen attacks surfaced in the media, it has emerged that he was also plotting to recruit more people like him to become suicide bombers.

Citing sources in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Dainik Bhaskar reported that Umar Nabi regularly sent provocative Jihadist messages to youths to brainwash them. More than 70 videos, including 12 of Umar, were recovered from mobile phones seized from various individuals arrested in this case.

These videos were reportedly sent to over 11 people, seven of whom are believed to be Kashmiri youth. The remaining youth are from Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka and have been linked to Al-Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad.

Meanwhile, the investigators have also found that Aamir Rashid Ali, who provided Umar Nabi with the i-20 car, was unwilling to become a suicide bomber himself. Umar Nabi also sent brainwashing videos to him. After this entire incident came to light, investigating agencies suspect that Umar was preparing an entire suicide squad.

In another revelation, the investigations have revealed that Umar Nabi had assembled the explosive in a public parking lot near the Red Fort.

NDTV reports that the investigators focused on what Umar Nabi did before the blast. The analysis of CCTV footage revealed that Nabi spent around three hours at the parking spot near the Sunehri Masjid. Jihadi Umar Nabi drove the car into the parking at 3:19 pm. He was seen driving out at 6.28 pm in the CCTV footage. The explosion occurred at around 6:52 pm. The Jihadi did not step out of his car all this while.

While it was initially being speculated that the car blast on 10th November was a panic attack since Umar Nabi’s fellow Jihadis got exposed and arrested by the investigation agencies, it has emerged that Umar was in contact with his handlers when he entered Delhi that day. Umar Nabi and his handler discussed the target area. They contemplated attacking Mayur Vihar, or Connaught Place and eventually Nabi drove to Old Delhi.

The final target was chosen as Red Fort given the monument’s symbolic importance and expectation of a decent crowd. However, the jihadis did not factor in that it was a Monday and the Lal Qila remained closed to visitors. Ultimately, Umar Nabi and his handler on call decided to carry out blast the crowded Netaji Subhash Marg. The location hold significance given it has Red Fort on one side and the Chandni Chowk on the other.

During his three-hour stay at the parking lot near the Sunehri Masjid, Umar Nabi assembled the explosives and as soon as it was ready, he left for the target location and triggered the blast, killing 13 people and leaving two dozen injured.

Meanwhile, on 18th November, Enforcement Directorate arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, chairman and founder of Al Falah University in Haryana. Hours later, a Delhi court sent him to 13 days of ED custody, stating that the case was serious and the investigation was still in its early stages.  The ED told the Delhi court that Al Falah University had made around Rs 415 crore by misleading students and their families through false claims about its accreditation and recognition.
