A senior official of Assam…
According to Assam Police and initial reports from officials, four personnel sustained injuries. Three were injured with minor wounds, and one was seriously injured. The injured commandos were promptly evacuated and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Their current condition remains under monitoring.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, but police and security sources have strongly pointed to ULFA-I cadres, citing the use of sophisticated weaponry like RPGs and the group’s history of operating in the region with cross-border links to Myanmar. The incident took place amid heightened security across Assam ahead of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, raising concerns that the attack may be an attempt to disrupt the pre-poll atmosphere.
In response, authorities have declared a high alert in Tinsukia district and along inter-state borders. Extensive search and cordon operations are underway to track down the perpetrators. Security forces have intensified patrolling and are investigating possible links to recent extortion demands reportedly made to local businessmen by ULFA-I elements.
