Four tourists from Uttar Pradesh go missing near Pangong Lake in Ladakh, search operation underway

A frantic search operation is currently underway in the high-altitude desert of Ladakh following the mysterious disappearance of four tourists from Uttar Pradesh. The group, consisting of four young men from Agra, was reported missing near the iconic Pangong Lake, sparking concerns for their safety amidst harsh winter conditions.

Local authorities have identified the missing individuals as Jaiveer Chaudhary, Shudanshu Faujdar, Yash Mittal, and Shivam Chaudhary. The youths, all aged between 20 and 26, had travelled to the Union Territory for a vacation.

According to preliminary reports, the group was last seen together on the morning of January 9. Eyewitnesses state the young men were engaging in typical tourist activities, taking photographs and recording videos against the scenic backdrop of the lake, shortly before they went out of contact.

The search and rescue mission has been categorised as critical due to the extreme weather conditions currently gripping the region. Pangong Lake sits at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, where oxygen levels are low and January temperatures often plummet to bone-chilling levels well below freezing.

Sources indicate that the freezing temperatures and the rugged, snow-covered terrain are posing significant challenges for the search teams. Despite these obstacles, authorities are pressing forward with the operation to locate the missing men.

Police have formally issued missing person notices and have circulated the details of the four men to nearby checkpoints and villages to aid in the search.

While sources confirm that a search operation has been launched, there has been no official statement released by the Army or senior police officials regarding the specific circumstances of the disappearance as of Tuesday evening.
