A 26-year-old software engineer from Bihar allegedly died by suicide at her apartment in Miyapur, under Hyderabad’s Cyberabad jurisdiction, following reported harassment over dowry, police said.
The woman, identified as Ishita Yadav, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the living room of her flat on Wednesday evening. Her husband, Neeraj Bhansal, alerted the authorities after discovering her.
According to investigators, the couple had met on social media in 2020 and were in a relationship for nearly five years before marrying in Patna on February 20 this year in the presence of their families. After the wedding, both moved to Hyderabad, where they were employed in the software sector.
However, Ishita’s parents have alleged that tensions escalated soon after the marriage. They claim Neeraj subjected her to repeated harassment, demanding additional dowry and pressuring her family to invest in a start-up he had recently launched.
Based on the family’s complaint, Miyapur police have registered an FIR and initiated a detailed probe. Ishita’s body has been sent to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination. The husband has been taken into custody and is being questioned, while further investigation remains ongoing.
