The initial findings suggested that they became part of Islamist outfits, known as ‘Soldiers of Jihad’ and ‘Mission Khilafat’ on the social media. The inquiry has revealed connections between them and Abu Hufeiza, affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). He exploits Telegram and other such platforms as an IS recruiter.
“We received information that some youths in the Kurla, Shivaji Nagar and Govandi areas were in contact with banned terror outfits. Following legal procedures, the teams conducted searches at the residences of three people on Saturday and Sunday. They were interrogated, and their mobile phones and electronic devices have been seized,” a top cop informed.
Security agencies found few underage people in Mumbai who seemed to have been impacted by the jihadi propaganda as multiple other suspects are now under surveillance. Central and state agencies are trying to eliminate the network and track down further leads related to this module while the two terrorists are questioned. According to officials, the current emphasis is on locating the handlers and stopping any possible sleeper cell activities in the country.
On 5th April (Sunday), a similar operation transpired in which a man named Rizwan Ahmed was nabbed by the special cell from Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar with the assistance of UP ATS. He has been involved with an IS-linked module since 2015 and was tasked with adding more members for the terror group. He was captured that year and a load of incriminating alongside anti-national content was taken from him.
Rizwan was imprisoned in Arthur Road Jail prior to Delhi’s Tihar Jail. According to sources, he was hired while in judicial custody and was an integral part of the same module. He moved his base and opened a fast-food restaurant after his release, which aided him establish a low profile. Agencies, however, believe that he could have been active in attempts to attract and manipulate young people.
Notably, a suicide bomber, Dr Umar-ul-Nabi from Pulwama, had carried out a suicide blast in a vehicle near the Red Fort in the national capital after the authorities busted an inter-state JeM terrorist module consisting of Kashmiri Muslim doctors last year. Furthermore, police recently dismantled a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module led by Shabbir Ahmad Lone in Bangladesh.
