CM Yogi holds a high-level meeting and orders the SIT formation
After leaving King George’s Medical College, the Chief Minister held a high-level meeting at his official residence. The meeting was attended by all senior officials. During the meeting, CM Yogi directed the formation of a two-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Amrit Abhijat (Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Religious Affairs, and Culture Department) and Praveen Kumar (Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone).
The SIT has been directed to complete its inquiry and submit the report to the Chief Minister within seven days.
In the Aliganj coaching fire incident, the Aliganj Police Station has registered a case under Sections 110, 105, 125, and 3(5) of the BNS, as well as Sections 6/10 of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act, against six accused persons and other responsible parties.
Three suspects arrested, four officials suspended
So far, four people suspected of being involved in the Aliganj coaching fire incident have been arrested. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramkrishna Upadhyay, Virendra Prasad Shukla, Tushak Krishna Jaiswal, and Suresh Kumar Sahu.
In addition to arresting the suspects, the Yogi government is also ensuring accountability from administrative officials. On CM Yogi Adityanath’s orders, four officials have been suspended with immediate effect.
These officials are Gaurav Kumar (Executive Engineer, Collection, Electricity Department, Janakipuram), Kamlendra Kumar Singh (In-charge FSSO, Fire Department, Indira Nagar), Anil Kumar (Assistant Engineer, Lucknow Development Authority), and Pramod Pandey (Junior Engineer, Lucknow Development Authority).
As reported earlier, the blaze was reported around 3 pm from a coaching institute located on Usha Mehta Marg under the Aliganj police station limits. Responding swiftly, authorities deployed 14 fire tenders, including a hydraulic platform vehicle, to contain the fire and rescue those trapped inside the commercial building housing a coaching centre.
As thick smoke engulfed the structure, several students were forced to take desperate measures to save themselves. Eyewitness videos circulating on social media showed students jumping from the first floor while locals gathered below, urging them to leap to safety. Witnesses claimed that seven to eight students managed to escape by jumping from the building, while concerns remained that others could still be trapped inside during the initial stages of the operation.
A resident told PTI that the fire may have started due to a spark and alleged that around 20 to 25 students were feared trapped when the blaze intensified.
Soon after, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the site to review the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. Now an SIT has been formed, suspects have been arrested, and negligent officials have been suspended. The state government said that further action will be taken based on SIT report.
