Mamata leads protest march against ED raids at the I-PAC office, accuses BJP govt of misusing central agencies for political vendetta

TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee staged a protest march on Friday (9th January) against an ED raid at the residence and offices of I-PAC chief Pratik Jain in Kolkata on Thursday (8th January). She led the protest march from Jadavapur 8B Bus Stand to Hazra More.

Banerjee, accompanied by senior TMC leaders, led the march amid sloganeering against the BJP government at the centre. She accused the BJP government of “misusing central agencies for political vendetta” ahead of the upcoming 2026 assembly elections in the state.

The raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was conducted at several locations in Kolkata and Bidhannagar as part of an investigation into a money laundering case linked to an organised fake government job scam. The ED searched I-PAC’s office located on the 11th floor of a building in Salt Lake, the Loudon Street residence of I-PAC’s head, Pratik Jain, and the office of a trader in the Posta area of Burrabazar, Kolkata.

However, the raid was interrupted by Mamata Banerjee, who barged into the building and took away important documents. In a statement, the ED said that the West Bengal CM also removed documents and electronic devices from the I-PAC office. Subsequently, the ED moved the Calcutta High Court against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal.
