Citizenship process of Hindu refugees from Bangladesh will be expedited under CAA, assures PM Modi in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing multiple rallies across Katwa, Jangipur and Murshidabad in West Bengal, said that if voted to power, the BJP government in the state would expedite citizenship for Hindu refugees under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He stressed that families like the Matua and Namasudra communities, along with other Hindu refugees, have a constitutional right to live in India and are not dependent on political favour.

Modi said the CAA was introduced to provide protection and citizenship to persecuted Hindus who came from Bangladesh, and promised quicker processing of their applications. He added that his government would ensure that their identity and rights remain secure.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also took a strong stand against what he called “appeasement and vote-bank politics” by the All India Trinamool Congress. He said Bengal would not accept such governance anymore and claimed that demographic changes in the state would not be allowed. “We will not allow Bengalis in West Bengal to become a minority,” he said.

Targeting the state government further, Modi said that corruption, syndicate systems and cut-commission practices had pushed industries out of Bengal, forcing many young people to migrate in search of jobs. He added that the ruling party had moved away from its original slogan of “Ma, Mati, Manush” and was now relying on infiltrators for political gains.

Referring to Bengal’s political past, Modi said the state has a history of changing governments, moving from Congress to the Left and then to TMC, and suggested that the current government could face a similar fate.

He also raised concerns about women’s safety and representation in the police, saying Bengal lags behind states like Bihar, where women form around 23-25% of the police force. Modi promised stricter action on crimes against women, saying women-only police stations would be set up to improve safety.

The Prime Minister also said a white paper would be brought out to examine corruption, violence and crimes during the TMC’s 15-year rule in the state.
