Abdullah Azam, former Suar MLA and the son of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by the special MP/MLA court in Rampur for using forged documents to obtain his passport. The sentencing was pronounced on December 5, Friday.
The case was registsred against Abdullah Azam in 2019 on the complaint of BJP leader and MLA Akash Saxena. The verdict has come weks after another verdict where Abdullah and his father Azam Khan were both sentenced by the same court in another case of forged documents and PAN cards. Both Abdullah Azam and his father Azam Khan have been lodged in the Rampur district jail since their sentencing on November 17.
With the current sentencing, Abdullah Azam has been convicted in 3 cases so far, while his father and the former MP Azam Khan has been convicted in 7 cases. In total, 77 cases against Azam Khan and 40 cases against Abdullah Azam are still pending before the Rampur court.
In the passport case, Abdullah was found guilty under IPC sections 420, 467, 468 and 471. He has also been fined Rs 50,000. Rampur Prosecution Director Rohtas Kumar Pandey has stated that a total of 5 prosecution witnesses and 19 defence witnesses deposed before the court during the hearing of the passport case.
