Ravish Kumar says miscreants who throw stones at trains should be psychologically evaluated and given free train rides to make them feel nice

YouTube journalist Ravish Kumar has once again churned out words of his wisdom regarding the stone-throwing incidents on trains in India. He suggested that one should make efforts to deeply understand the phenomenon of stone pelting at trains in India, and that people involved in stone pelting at trains should be psychologically evaluated.

“I believe there is a need to understand the phenomenon of stones being thrown at trains. What exactly drives people to throw stones? Is this a psychological issue? The Railways should release data indicating how many such incidents are reported daily, and campaigns should be conducted along the routes traversed by trains to discourage stone-throwing,” Kumar wrote on X on Saturday (March 14, 2026), commenting on a post in which a stone pelter is seen admitting his act.

Apparently, Kumar fails to see such incidents as a crime of causing damage to public property, and instead of suggesting appropriate punishment for such behaviour, he calls for a government-funded study of the mindset of such people. He asked the Ministry of Railways to run campaigns in areas where incidents of stone pelting on trains take place and request people not to throw stones on the trains.

The X post that Ravish Kumar commented on was about an incident of stone pelting at Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express near Mumbai, in which the windows of four coaches were damaged. Passengers inside the train recorded the video of a man throwing stones at the train. Later on, the culprit, reportedly a 23-year-old ragpicker, was caught, and was seen admitting on camera that he had thrown stones at the train while intoxicated.

Ravish Kumar, then, went on to link the incidents of stone pelting on trains with people not being able to afford train tickets. He suggests that people who cannot afford to travel on trains like the Vande Bharat throw stones at them out of frustration. Therefore, the solution, according to him, is to allow them free rides on the trains. “If people wish to travel by train but lack the funds, they should contact the Station Master; he can arrange for them to travel free of charge for a distance of two stations. This measure would help alleviate the impulse among locals to throw stones at trains,” Kumar suggested.

Notably, multiple incidents of stone pelting at the Vande Bharat Express train have been reported since its first commercial run.
