Twisha Sharma death case: Family alleges dowry harassment, abuse; lawyer husband on the run, retired judge mother-in-law named co-accused

An approximately 2 months pregnant model and actress who married into the household of a retired judge was discovered dead recently. 33-year-old Twisha Sharma from Noida was found hanging at her matrimonial house in Bhopal’s Katara Hills neighborhood on 12th May. She married lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025. The pair first met via a dating app in 2024. He is the son of retired Sessions Judge and co-accused Giribala Singh. He is currently on the run.

Her family asserted long-term mental and physical abuse, dowry harassment as well as added that her spouse and in-laws even tried their influence to compromise the probe. They have charged foul play and expressed that she was under great agony for several months which led to the tragedy. They mentioned that she desired to return to Noida before her death. She also told her mother and a friend about her situation.

The authorities are investigating the incident as a possible act of suicide but have not recovered any suicide note from the spot. They informed that Twisha spoke with her family until around 10 pm on that fateful night. They further stated that Samarth and Giribala brought Twisha to a local hospital where doctors proclaimed her dead upon arrival. According to police, they learnt about the occurrence from hospital officials around 11 pm.

A case was lodged against the mother and son following the complaints of Twisha’s family under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita involving provisions for dowry killing and harassment. Moreover, the Bhopal Police have issued a monetary reward of Rs 10,000 for any information leading to Samarth’s arrest.

Moreover, the investigating officer omitted to present the belt to the medical board during the autopsy examination. The charge was made in the post-mortem report issued by AIIMS Bhopal. Hence, doctors failed to perform a scientific analysis between the ligature material and the marks discovered on Twisha’s neck.

Meanwhile, two CCTV footages have surfaced, one of which featured Twisha moving towards the terrace and mounting the stairs at her home. Her mother-in-law was also spotted proceeding to another room and then downstairs. Her spouse is supposedly seen performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on her twice in the second video. Two more men, a house help and a neighbour, went upstairs to assist Samarth in bringing down the deceased.

A 6-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to look into numerous aspects of the case, including accusations of dowry harassment, physical abuse and probable evidence destruction. Twisha’s family has also requested a second post-mortem and a court-monitored inquiry, asserting injury marks were identified on her body.

They contended that she was put under pressure concerning employment and pregnancy. They added that she voiced dread and emotional distress on multiple occasions. They refused to carry out her funeral and asked for strict action against the perpetrators. They also demonstrated outside Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav’s residence.

On the other hand, Giribala refuted allegations of dowry harassment and murder along with claiming that Twisha had a medical termination of pregnancy (MTP). She remarked that Twisha and her parents had a long history of estrangement. She insisted that Twisha also had a record of substance abuse and psychiatric treatment. She added that her daughter-in-law had been undergoing counselling and taking medications administered to schizophrenic patients. She alleged that Twisha acknowledged to taking a lot of marijuana during her pregnancy. However, the cops have stated that there is no proof to support her statements.
