Conflict over online gaming

Initial findings suggest that there had been tension at home over the girls’ growing attachment to online Korean games. Police said their interest in gaming began during the COVID-19 lockdown and gradually turned into an obsession, also they stopped going school after pandemic. They were reportedly deeply involved in a task-based “Korean love game,” which became a major point of disagreement within the family.

Authorities also noted that the girls had stopped attending school regularly and were spending most of their time online. Investigators are looking into all aspects, including a reported suicide note.

Speaking to the media, the girls’ father said he was devastated. “They had told me, ‘Papa, we cannot leave Korea. Korean is our life. Korean is everything to us. You cannot separate us from it. We will give up our lives.’ I have just seen the suicide note. This is very tragic. I appeal to all parents to be careful and ensure children do not get so deeply attached to games…” he said.
