Uttar Pradesh: Shamsher kills wife, buries body 6 feet under bedroom floor and sleeps on cot over the grave before filing missing report

A shocking case has come to light from Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, where police recovered the body of a 20-year-old woman from inside her matrimonial home on Wednesday, 15th July. The body was buried beneath the mud floor of a room after her husband reportedly tried to make the case look like a missing person incident.

The woman, Mufidan, had been missing for days, according to a complaint filed by her husband, Shamsher (22). However, the case took a dramatic turn after her mother approached the police with a different version of events.

Mother’s complaint changed the course of the investigation

On 13th July, Shamsher went to the Dumariyaganj police station and informed the police that his wife had gone missing on 11th July. While the missing complaint was being examined, Mufidan’s mother, Safidunisha, filed another complaint accusing her son-in-law and his parents of killing her daughter and hiding her body.

Based on her complaint, police searched the couple’s house in Chak Majhari village. During the search, officers noticed that the mud floor of one room looked newly plastered. They decided to dig the spot where they found Mufidan’s body buried nearly six feet underground.

Police said the body had been buried inside the house after a deep pit was dug. The floor was then covered with fresh mud, and a cot was placed over it. Investigators believe Shamsher continued to sleep on that cot for several days before filing the missing person report in an attempt to mislead the investigation.

Marriage took place just over a month ago

According to police, Shamsher worked as a labourer in Mumbai. During his stay there, he became friends with Majhar, a resident of Dasiya village in neighbouring Sant Kabir Nagar district. Over time, Shamsher and Majhar’s daughter, Mufidan, fell in love.

The couple later eloped and, with the approval of both families, got married on 1st June 1.

Police said the marriage soon became troubled, with regular fights between the couple. During the investigation, officers found that Shamsher believed his wife was speaking to another man on the phone. Police believe this suspicion led to the incident.

Search underway for accused

Soon after the body was recovered, Shamsher, his father Nibar, and mother Khushboonisha left the village. An FIR has been registered against all three, and multiple police teams have been deployed to arrest them.

Dumariyaganj Circle Officer Brijesh Verma said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police are continuing their investigation to piece together the entire sequence of events.
