Police said Shamar Elkins carried out the attack as a domestic violence incident, killing children aged one to fourteen at a West 79th Street residence. Two women and a teenager were injured, and the crime scene spanned multiple locations.
Two of the shooting incidents happened in Heidelberg and Rolling Fork, and the third one, which is said to be the most fatal, took place in the Mississippi Delta town of Leland.
Authorities have issued an "active shooter" warning to the locals and asked them to stay in their homes as much as possible and report any suspicious activity.
