The NPR, which was initially proposed to be conducted alongside the first phase of the Census, was put on the back burner following stiff opposition from left-liberal groups and Muslim organisations across the country.

NPR has also suggested its employees not to share their work on Twitter.

Twitter defines state-affiliated media outlets as outlets "where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution." 

NPR now joins the ranks of Russia Today and Xinhua News Agency, which are designated as 'State-affiliated media' on Twitter
